Our Story
History of EFAC Onitsha Zone
“EFAC is established for members to engage in evangelical ministry while remaining devoted to the Anglican faith.”
The Evangelical Fellowship in the Anglican Communion (EFAC) was founded globally in 1961 with the conviction that the Anglican Communion needed a fellowship committed to the evangelical faith — grounded in Scripture, energised by the Holy Spirit, and united in the mission of Christ.
Within the Diocese on the Niger, the movement took root around 1979. Its early years were marked by significant opposition from diocesan clergymen, with the fellowship accused of being “un-Anglican.” Despite this resistance, committed members pressed on.
The breakthrough came on 4 October 1985, when EFAC on the Niger was officially inaugurated at Central School Field, Odakpu, alongside the Young for Christ Crusade (YCC). Under Bishop Jonathan Onyemelukwe, the fellowship gained broader diocesan acceptance.
A consultative council on 29 August 1990 at St. James Anglican Church, Ichi cemented reconciliation and set the stage for growth into 18 subzones, over 130 groups and 20 wings.

Our Vision
Anglican Evangelicals are concerned to seek the renewal of the Church in every dimension of its life — its faith, worship, holiness, fellowship, and mission. EFAC is a movement which, within the increasing pluralism of human society, proclaims the uniqueness and finality of Jesus Christ.
The Aims of EFAC
Our Aims
The aims of the fellowship rest on the conviction that a strong biblical witness is essential for the life and health of the Anglican Communion, within the wider context of seeking first God’s Kingdom.
To promote the supreme authority of Scripture in matters of both faith and conduct throughout the Anglican Communion at every level of its life and witness.
To share with members of the Anglican Communion a commitment to biblical obedience, particularly in the areas of Christian discipleship, servant leadership, Church renewal, and mission in the world.
To foster fellowship and unity among Evangelical Anglicans throughout the world.
To function as a resource group to develop and encourage biblically faithful leadership in all spheres of life.
To provide a forum for taking counsel together on important issues, developing policies in matters of common concern, and articulating gospel distinctives in the areas of faith, order, life and mission.

Our Faith
As members of the Anglican Communion, we affirm the faith uniquely revealed in the Holy Scriptures, set forth in the catholic creeds, witnessed to in the historic Anglican formularies — with special emphasis on the grace of God, His unmerited mercy.

EFAC is a global network of evangelical Anglicans with chapters across Africa, Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. The Onitsha Zone is part of EFAC Nigeria, operating under the Diocese on the Niger of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion). We are connected to the global body of Christ while remaining rooted in our local communities.
